Cooling System Thermostat Replacement Guide

Overview

A faulty thermostat can cause overheating, slow warm-up or unstable coolant temperature.

Replacement Steps

  1. Let the engine cool completely before opening the cooling system.
  2. Drain enough coolant to lower the level below the thermostat housing.
  3. Remove hoses and mounting bolts carefully.
  4. Clean the mating surface and install the new thermostat with a new seal.
  5. Refill with the correct coolant mixture and bleed air from the system.
  6. Warm the engine and check for leaks.
