The steering rack is the core mechanical link between the steering wheel and the wheels. Over time, seals degrade, causing fluid loss and steering stiffening.
Diagnostic Signs
Leaking hydraulic fluid around the steering gear boots or input shaft is a clear sign of internal seal failure. In electric steering systems, abnormal squealing noises or a heavy steering wheel indicate electric motor or sensor wear.
Installation Recommendations
Always align the steering wheel and lock it in the center position before disconnecting the steering shaft. Drain the steering fluid system completely and flush it with fresh OEM-approved steering fluid to remove contaminants. Once the new rack is installed, perform a full wheel alignment to ensure correct toe-in settings.
